Here's an odd one: Type a famous inspirational quote into an image-generating software program and see what comes up. Then take the product and quiz yourself on which quotes were used to generate the images. This is done by giving them a series of images consisting of four choices and asking them to guess, within a limited number of guesses, which quote the art on display was generated from.

Frankly, it is very strange. Does the vague figure surrounded by blue fields mean "this life comes but once, and you never come back for an encore," or does it mean "a shot you've never taken will fail 100 percent of the time"? Probably neither, but it is a bit difficult to be sure.

The AI "Dally 2" generates images using a process called diffusion. It starts with a pattern of random dots and prompts. Then, when it recognizes that a particular part of the image resembles the prompt, it changes the pattern of dots toward the image. This is the second generated image program developed by the Open AI project. (Open in new tab)

I think we've been talking about AI art all year. First, we used Nvidia's AI art program to turn a doodle into a masterpiece. (opens in new tab) Then someone started using AI to generate fusions of Overwatch characters. (opens in new tab) Then someone won an art competition using generative AI (opens in new tab) and doubled down. (open in new tab)

Then someone decided that the person who appeared in their art was a spooky cryptid. (Open in new tab) But these days, the people who make Facebook have created AI video tools, and we don't like them anymore. (Open in new tab) https://glasp.co/dalledle/
