Tabletop RPGs such as "Fallout" and "Homeworld" go digital native with Role

Up-and-coming digital role-playing platform Role (opens in new tab) is partnering with Modiphius and Magpie Games to launch a marketplace where you can pick up tabletop role-playing games from major IPs. In other words, there are TTRPGs for Fallout, Homeworld, Dune, Star Trek, and more, with Avatar Legends on the way.

"Role prides itself on being the easiest place for RPG fans to play and create today. Every game room is designed for minimal preparation, easy navigation, and quick gameplay focused on social fun, not complicated and cumbersome tabletop simulation tools," says Elle Dwight, Role's CEO.

Dwight describes Role this way: "Role's UI has a simple, intuitive design that is consistent across all games you might play.

The killer feature of Role compared to other digital role-playing spaces is that it is completely drag and drop. There is no need to learn specialized scripting, coding, or markup languages to make automation function smoothly in the game. This is true for both players and game masters.

Role itself is a free app, but the new marketplace allows users to find a new game they want to play and immediately purchase its digital version. Bundles include standard stuff like PDFs and art for the games, as well as Role integrations like themed skins and automatic character sheets on the app. What's especially nice is that all of Role's official rulesets are customizable, allowing players to tailor them to their house rules and the game's unique needs. [As well as rulesets compatible with Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, quick starts for many games are already available for free on Role, and Role's team is offering light rules games like "Isle of Ixx," "Vast Grimm" and "CyberMetal 2012" are recommended, but quick starts for Modiphius games like "Homeworld," "Fallout," "Dune," and "Star Trek" are also offered for free.

The marketplace is currently a field for game publishers, and Dwight said it will offer at least four new games each month through 2023." The roadmap includes the catalogs of several major publishers, such as Modiphius and Magpie Games, as well as popular indies such as World Champ Game Co. and Sword Queen Games.

Role will also support self-service in 2023, allowing any RPG creator to create, share, and sell their material to the community.

Role can be found on their website: playrole.com (opens in new tab), where you can also view their game marketplace. (opens in new tab) [17].
