FIFA23 can keep you from saying, "FIFA23 sucks."

FIFA23 can keep you from saying, "FIFA23 sucks."

We've all had a less than ideal game in a game. No matter what game you play, from Rocket League to League of Legends, there is always a game you could have done better. Usually, any harsh remarks come from your opponents or the people you play with, and you can mute them or block them so they never engage with you again. FIFA, however, likes to use its own commentators to berate you when you are not performing well.

As Eurogamer (opens in new tab) reports, "FIFA 23" gives you the option to turn off the barbs directed at you, the player, when you are not doing your best. Usually, the match commentator will make harsh comments about your team's performance, just as he would in a regular soccer match. This is the normal feedback that you would critique when watching a game, such as this player is slow off the ball, or the defense is failing, etc. However, if it is something that interferes with your mental game, you have the option to prevent FIFA 23 from giving you such feedback.

In the current publicly available EA Play trial, an option to "disable critical commentary" is available in the audio settings. This apparently does not completely remove all negative comments, but perhaps those that slip through the cracks will become constructive critical commentary instead.

Such a setup would be useful for esports as well as for taking into account the thoughts and feelings of children who are just beginning to become familiar with the game. For competitive purposes, it must be quite difficult for players to overcome their nervousness. If they are trying to get back into the game, that is very unhelpful.
