This space MMO seems to be the child born between "Halo" and "Starfield".

Earth from Another Sun (opens in new tab) is a space MMO slash FPS that just released a new trailer. At the beginning I thought "wow, this shows something even more exciting than "Starfield"", but by the time the mech-em-up action in the middle of the game started, I was sold. Who knows what will happen, but this game looks epic, fun, and has battles of epic proportions (they say up to 1000 people in one conflict). [The game is in development at Multiverse studio, and we'll soon find out if it's worth the enthusiasm; a demo is available as part of the Steam Next Fest, which runs from October 3-10, with various cosmetic bonuses for trying it out.

Now, there are downsides. Or there may be. The "b" word is used several times on the official Earth From Another Sun website. The game uses blockchain technology, but the purpose of its use is not so clear. It is linked to the player's creation tools ("With our design tools, you can create new characters, quests, loot items, art assets, towns, and even new planets"), so expect a marketplace of some sort. Eventually, there will be a great game using blockchain, and yes, this is what I'm interested in.

What you actually do in this game is more or less what the developers describe. Building your own space corps is the obvious starting point, and while it is nice to be able to have dozens of skyscraper-class mechs, you can also undertake missions to gain reputation and wealth, and build diplomatic influence among the various factions. You can become a pirate, or you can become the captain of a starship and defend civilization.

There also seems to be quite a bit of "Destiny" influence in terms of co-op dungeons and shooting activities with an emphasis on PvE missions like asteroid mining (if this game manages to make asteroid mining sexy, than any space game in history (which would mean it has accomplished a lot).
