World of Warcraft" May Support Official Controllers

A new build of the "Dragonflight" (opens in new tab) beta is now available, and it looks like "World of Warcraft" may officially support controllers in the new expansion; according to Icy Veins (opens in new tab), the latest build includes Xbox and PlayStation controller assets have been data-mined and "tied to controller bindings."

This news adds weight to speculation that WoW may appear on Xbox after Microsoft's acquisition. It is also what many of Dragonflight's UI updates seem to focus on.

Dragonflight's beta version previously added an "action combat" option. When enabled, one no longer needs to tab between enemies to target them, but instead automatically locks on to the closest enemy in the direction the character is facing. The beta also allows the user to assign an Interact key, which again would make using the controller easier.

In Shadowlands, it is possible to use the controller using the in-game console commands (open in a new tab), but it is not intuitive and is quite laborious to set up. Therefore, if Blizzard is pushing towards more user-friendly controller support, it can only be a good thing, no matter what happens to Microsoft.
