General
Third-party RTX 4090 graphics cards are already over $2,000.

Nvidia's biggest and boldest card to date, the RTX 4090 (opens in new tab), will be released on October 12 for $1599. This is the reference price for the card and is the price found on Nvidia's own Founders Edition cards. However, expect higher prices for third-party high-end models, with early listings possibly going as high as €2,550. Or $2,000.

is a good guess.

German retailer Caseking has the Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 4090 AMP on sale! The Extreme Airo is selling for a whopping €2,279 (opens in new tab). It's a nice car, sorry, card ...... I was just thinking about spending the same amount on my car. I can only assume that the card flaunts a 2,230MHz base clock and 2,580MHz boost clock and is kept cool by an absolutely massive heatsink.

Zotac also offers the second most expensive card on the site, the Trinity OC, for €2,199.

In the US, Newegg lists the Asus GeForce RTX 4090 24GB ROG Strix OC for $2,000 (opens in new tab). This price initially surprised us, as MSI's water-cooled Suprim Liquid GPU is listed at $1,750 (opens in new tab). However, Strix cards are usually well-cooled, and we would expect the RTX 4090 model at this price to be as well; neither Newegg nor Asus have yet noted a clock speed, but it is likely to be relatively fast. [Videocardz (open in new tab) found the Asus Strix OC for €2,550 including VAT (open in new tab) at Proshop in Finland. Big ugh.

Prices are still largely undetermined in the UK, as Scan, Overclockers, and Box have no prices listed; Gigabyte's GeForce RTX 4090 Gaming OC is listed at £1,872 (opens in new tab). Asus' Strix price is now what it would cost in the UK, we dare not think.

Let's not forget that the UK is also getting the worst of the RTX 4090 at MSRP - the Founders Edition is priced at £1,679. This is roughly $1,858 at today's exchange rate of British pounds to US dollars, a far cry from the US MSRP of $1,599 for the same card.

It is worth noting that these are early listings and not necessarily final prices. However, we would be surprised if these are not the same as the retail price on launch day.

I was told by a retailer that pre-orders will not be available for Nvidia's RTX 4090 or any of the RTX 40 series cards. Be wary if you see one, as anyone offering pre-orders may be breaking the rules and may not be genuine.

What this means is that we can expect a flood of RTX 4090 pre-orders at launch; Nvidia has not announced where the Founders Edition cards will be sold at launch, but will probably stick to the tried and true channels. That means Best Buy in the US and Scan in the UK, but you can currently sign up on Nvidia's website to be notified closer to the time.

Nvidia may return to its own store for Founders Editions of the RTX 40 series, but it may risk bots buying up all the inventory.

If bots and resellers get their hands on these cards (robot or not) at launch, and to some extent they will, expect prices for those used ones to be well over $2,000 if you're looking for these GPUs on eBay, Be prepared to pay more. Ideally, Nvidia will have a lot in stock to start with and be able to replenish it quickly, but demand will outstrip supply for a while; the RTX 4090 has a very large GPU inside as well, so supply is going to be slightly more difficult.
