Ubisoft's new shooter game looks like the animated Destiny.

Ubisoft has announced the upcoming PvE game "Project U," a "new concept session-based co-op shooter in which many players unite to face an overwhelming threat." The game does not even have a name yet, but is looking for participants in an unannounced closed network test.

According to the publisher, Project U is in "early development" and the first tests will be in English and PC only and will take place in European countries. Players in Luxembourg will be overjoyed.

The official website lists relatively stringent specs: for 30 FPS, you need at least a GTX 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 64, i5 processor, 16GB RAM; for 60 FPS, an RTX 2060 or RX Vega 64, i7 processor, 16GB of RAM is required. For now, these are unoptimized requirements and could be lowered in the future.

Despite the lack of information, it seems clear that this is a stepping stone for Ubisoft to follow the game-as-a-service path established by "Destiny". The colorful key art depicts soldiers of various types, with an eerie array of spaceships and mechas facing them.

Ubisoft recently went this route with Rainbow Six: Ubisoft recently went this route with Rainbow Six: Extraction, albeit in a much darker tone than Project U.

[14] [15] [16] Ubisoft's "Rainbow Six: Extraction" was a more recent addition to the Rainbow Six series. While it wasn't perfect, our own super-soldier Morgan Park credits it with making PvE "thrilling and messy. Worryingly, Ubisoft is also something of a bandwagon jumper, with games like Hyperscape (a soon abandoned and closed battle royale candidate) ending badly.

However, there are some details about a game in development at Ubisoft called "Pathfinder," which looks a lot like Project U.

[14] The game is being developed by Ubisoft, and is expected to be released in the fall. Rumor has it, however, that the game is an object-based variation of Battle Royale, in which teams of four fight AI enemies across a map to reach a giant AI-controlled boss in the middle; Pathfinder is said to be PvPvE, so perhaps Pathfinder is definitely a thing. It is unclear if it is what is currently called Project U.
