'Cyberpunk 2077' Car Insurance Mods Want Everyone to Check Themselves Before Wrecking

Reckless driving is a tradition in open-world gaming. Leaving a trail of wrecked cars, dead pedestrians, and fallen streetlights is a fact of life, whether you are racing off on a quest to save the world or to the store for a new pair of shoes. Meanwhile, all the wreckage is cleaned up, and the next time you pass the same street corner, there will be no trace of your unplanned destruction.

But it is unfair to the citizens of the world whose cars you have sidetracked, bumped, scratched, wrecked, or destroyed.

The Drive Carefully MOD (opens in new tab) for Cyberpunk 2077, discovered by PCGamesN (opens in new tab), creates a new invisible organization in Night City, NCID (Night City Insurance Department), a new invisible organization in Night City. From now on, you will have to pay a fine if you hit, bump, or scratch another car while driving.

NCID is as invasive as the praying mantis blade you carry hidden in your forearm. You, and all residents of Knight City, are covered by an insurance plan, and your bank account is linked to the Department's non-blinking electronic eye. If you hit another car while speeding in your car, you are automatically fined, and the money is instantly deducted from your wallet.

The fines are not uniform. In the case of a head-on collision, you can't just nudge the other driver's rear bumper a little. If you really want to punish yourself (or be more realistic with the insurance company), you can increase the amount for each collision in the mod's config file.

Bureaucratic systems have loopholes that allow you to dent someone else's car and not pay a fine. Parked or unattended cars are not registered with the NCID, so if you are feeling destructive, you might want to keep your reckless driving to parking lots full of empty cars. Also, if the driver of the car is dead or incapacitated (not saying you had anything to do with it), you can ram their car as far as you want and not get fined.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you will be rewarded by the mod if an NPC hits your car, but let's face it, the Drive Carefully mod can be found at Nexus Mods (opens in a new tab). To make it work, you need another mod called Redscript (opens in new tab).
