Streamplify Cam

Having a good webcam is key to a PC setup, and Streamplify Cam aims to make it affordable.

With an MSRP of $70 (open in new tab)/£60 (open in new tab), it rivals the legendary Logitech C922. But this new entry from Streamplify may be trying to steal Logitech's big, imposing crown.

For an affordable webcam, it doesn't feel cheap to the touch, is constructed of textured plastic, and looks pretty good. This webcam is durable. It also has a 360° swivel and a handy tilt feature to help you set up your shots correctly.

Also included in the box with the Streamplify Cam is a small screw-on tripod. This is a nice accessory if you want to place the cam in a different location instead of stacking it on top of your monitor, but it is not a sturdy stand by any means, as it is composed of thin metal and slightly lumpy plastic. The 1/4-inch thread on the webcam body is compatible with other 1/4-inch tripods.

What is especially nice is the built-in privacy slider. It will not be peeked at. However, when you open it up, you will notice that there is a glass lens, which should provide a sharper image than most webcams at this price, as others tend to use a piece of plastic, as opposed to glass.

As for useful features, this webcam has a dual microphone that provides some decent pickup. Of course, it's not as good as these budget mics, but as a built-in mic, we can't complain. It's good enough for a day's work and any calls that happen to come in, and it's good enough as an intermediary until I can get a dedicated mic, whether it's XLR or USB.

As for the actual video output, the Streamplify Cam outputs at 1080p/60fps, which can compete with slightly more expensive webcams. Most other products in this price range tend to stick to 30 fps, and doubling this frame rate will produce a smoother output.

This translates to adequate all-around output in most lighting environments, as you can see from the sample video below. Colors may be a bit flat compared to higher-end webcams, but the 2MP sensor produces a fairly crisp image if you want to take a still image. However, depending on the lighting environment, still images may appear coarse.

The auto-dimming feature does a good job of compensating for any darkness (even if I look dumb in the process), as you can see from the gallery of images, but sometimes images can look a bit underexposed and pale. It also has a 90° wide-angle lens that allows me to show off not only myself, but also what is in the background.

No additional software is found here, as the Streamplify cam is a simple plug-and-play solution. Nevertheless, it works well with larger streaming software like OBS and appears in the device list as soon as it is connected. The cable length is 2 meters, which is quite long and allows you to use the cam wherever you want. If you accidentally break the cable, it's game over, unfortunately.

The Streamplify cam is a pretty good webcam for the price, offering a durable build, 1080p/60fps output, good color, a handy dual stereo microphone, and extra comfort. Because it is a plug-and-play solution, you may not find any additional software, but you can start using it right away, making it a great choice for the content creator's egg.
