The Secret Lab Titan is the standard by which all other gaming chairs are judged. To fulfill that role, it meets all the requirements of a gaming chair: comfort, support, and importantly, it looks great. The new Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is no different, but it has some great new features to keep it leading the pack.
Instead of talking about the old, let's get to the new: Secretlabs has now made the new Titan Evo 2022 available in three new Titan Evo 2022 sizes to make the new Titan Evo 2022 available to more people. Small, Regular, and Extra Large. The Titan Evo 2022 should be able to cover most sizes.
On a similar note, Secret Labs has added a small curve to the seat base. I'm not sure if these gentle curves really help to keep it in place throughout the day. [But this is far from the last upgrade to the Titan Evo, and the chair I received for review is covered from head to toe in a shiny new material: neo hybrid leatherette. It's a blend of resin laminate and polyurethane microfiber that, according to Secret Labs, is much tougher than the typical PU leather or the Prime 2.0 material they previously used.
As for the actual durability of the chair, we'll be able to tell you if it really stands the test of time after we've used it longer, perhaps when the Titan Evo 2024 is released. Still, I can tell you that the leatherette fabric feels remarkably breathable and cool throughout the day.
In fact, the chair is upholstered to perfection. While there is still more to be said for the Softweave Plus fabric, which we have always rated as the best in terms of durability and comfort, we have to say that we are quite taken with the look of the leatherette, especially the bright red stitching.
Fabric choice aside, there is only one thing that makes any chair great: comfort. The Titan Evo 2022 excels in that regard. Initially, I found the Secret Lab to be a little too firm for my liking. However, after about a week of use, I found a natural and comfortable seating position. Since then, I have almost forgotten about the chair.
This may sound like an insult, but quite the opposite. Whereas my past chairs had pain and comfort issues that made me want another chair after spending eight long hours in them, the Titan Evo 2022 did not.
A big reason for this is the adjustable lumbar support. Two dials on the side allow the internal support to be extended and retracted vertically. So not only do you not have to rely on awkward pillows to support your back, but the Titan Evo's lumbar support can be fine-tuned while seated. This makes it very easy to optimize.
When combined with the head support, a comfortable and supportive combination is created.
The head cushion is probably my favorite upgrade to the Titan Evo 2022. This is because it is magnetic.
It's a remarkably simple idea, which is why it's so useful. To attach the head cushion, you simply tap it against the top of the chair, and it sticks with the magical power of the magnet. This is a clever solution to a problem I was unaware of, but nonetheless much preferable to the labor-intensive straps.
In fact, the Titan Evo's armrests and side hinge covers are also magnetic. This means they are all easily interchangeable and easy to install.
And on the subject of armrests, Secret Labs has achieved full 4D movement in the Titan Evo. This means that the armrests move up, down, back, forth, left, right, and rotate. The armrests can be customized by the user and should fit most desks.
The same goes for the mechanical part of the chair. The hydraulic recliner has a smooth reclining motion. The lean function also has a tension adjustment, which allows the user to fine-tune the recline while the backrest is down.
As you can see, there is much to like about the Titan Evo 2022. Nevertheless, the true test of this chair will require a test like the one mentioned at the beginning of this review. For this chair to succeed, it must surpass the benchmarks set by its predecessors, the Secret Labs Titan and Omega. These chairs have ranked first and second in the Best Gaming Chairs Guide for many years.
Suffice it to say, this chair does it with flying colors.
A fusion of both the Titan and Omega gaming chairs, the Secret Lab Titan Evo 2022 outperforms both chairs in every way. The excellence of each chair is equaled or surpassed by the Titan Evo 2022. The price is a bit higher than its predecessor at $449 ($499 for the XL model), but we feel the upgrade is worth the higher price.
