High-profile streamer Turner "Tfue" Tenney seeks to harness his enthusiasm for things that don't exist in the real world with his own NFT collection. bobbleheads, and a unique "King of Gaming Showdown" NFT that "combines three of Tfue's most iconic characters into one artwork."

NFT stands for "non-fungible token."

NFTs are like cryptocurrency coins, except that they represent "ownership" of digital files. For example, the "Tfue King of Gaming Showdown" animation can be viewed and downloaded by anyone, but the NFT is an item in the blockchain ledger that represents ownership of that digital image. This is essentially the equivalent of the difference between a photo of the Mona Lisa and the Mona Lisa, but in reverse: enormous computing resources are expended to make a digital asset that is easy to reproduce one-of-a-kind.

This is one of the main criticisms of NFTs: the enormous amount of processing power required to create them, and the environmental impact this has on the environment, is extremely large. According to this Wired article, French artist Joanie Lemercier's creation of six NFTs required the equivalent of two years of his studio's normal energy use, and since NFTs are typically purchased with cryptocurrency, the carbon footprint is even larger. in a blog post, Lemercier said the environmental impact of current blockchain technology is a "catastrophe" and the decision to cancel the release of two more NFTs.

Still, the uniqueness of NFTs makes them desirable to certain collectors, so those with too much money in their hands are willing to throw away large amounts of money to claim ownership of NFTs.

Since there may be some doubt, consider the Rob Gronkowski Championship Series NFT collection. This is a set of "digitally hand-signed and numbered" virtual trading cards by NFL stars that sold over $2 million when it was released in March. Sports and entertainment branding firm Medium Rare helped produce Gronkowski's NFT and is also working on Tenney's NFT.

"I told [Tenney] the same thing I told Rob [Gronkowski]: this could be a $10,000 idea or a $10 million idea," Medium Rare founder Adam Richman told the Post.

Interestingly, Tenney is known for streaming games like "Fortnite" and "Call of Duty: Warzone," but his NFT collection does not actually mention any of them. While obviously "inspired" by Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Minecraft, Medium Rare takes great care to exclude any direct association with specific games; even the names of the NFTs are generic: for example, Fortnite's NFT is " Tfue Pickaxe" and Minecraft is "Tfue Blocks."

"Even though (the pickaxe) was invented probably in 1100 or whenever, Fortnite somehow trademarked it," Richman explains. 'We didn't use any direct characters or worlds. Obviously, that can be a bit of a guess on our part, but ...... We had our legal team look into it.

"We didn't want to get sued," Tenney says.

However, Sniper NFT has one unnamed but very specific element that may be familiar to Fortnite players.

Tenney's NFTfue King of Gaming Collection and King of Gaming Showdown cards will be sold via auction, beginning April 8 at 7 p.m. ET; the NFTfue bobbleheads will be sold April 10 at 6 p.m. ET. ET).
