General
Deadly Premonition 2" is coming to Steam this year.

"Deadly Premonition 2" is the long-awaited sequel to the 2010 cult classic "Deadly Premonition," which was released last year exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. Familiar for its charming low-budget presentation, the series was notoriously dismal in terms of performance at launch. It has since been patched, and some notable problems have been fixed, including a frame rate drop into the low 20s, but it still isn't beautiful.

However, with the sequel set to be released on Steam in 2021, it appears that we will soon be able to play the sequel without excessive frame rate disruption and blurry resolution. That's according to the 2020 annual report from Thunderful Group, the parent company of publisher Rising Star Games, Gematsu discovered. The exact release date is unknown, but assuming Nintendo's exclusivity period is one year, the game will probably launch in July.

While this is welcome news for "Deadly Premonition" revamped, there are reasons to be cautious. The PC port of the original game did not fare particularly well when it was first released, with performance issues and a resolution locked to 720p (terrible even back in 2013). A quick look at the game's Steam page suggests that there are still some unresolved issues, but it looks like we'll have to wait and see what happens with the sequel.

Like the original game, Deadly Premonition 2 was met with mixed reviews upon its release, with IGN writing that it was "not as bad as good, just average," and Destructoid noting that you have to shave and clean your clothes in the game, which no doubt led to a favorable review of 8 out of 10.
