Fallout 76" Data Monitor Finds Signs Suggesting Return to Washington, D.C.

There is still not much information about Expeditions in Fallout 76. Often hinted at, but never officially announced, this DLC-like feature is expected to one day take players out of the Appalachian wilderness for an atomic vacation. But new screenshots from a supposedly hacked server suggest that one of them may take us back to Washington, D.C., the setting of Bethesda's "Fallout" debut.

The image, shared by cyberRakan via an Imgur link on the Fallout76 subreddit, shows several working environments that many feel strongly resemble the urban landscape of Fallout 3, particularly the unmistakable swing of Dupont Circle

The asset's location is also in the city.

Most of the assets are visibly placeholders, especially the large spire at the back of the image. It is widely believed to be a rough blockout of the Washington Monument, but many argue that it could be anything from a church steeple to the Chrysler Building in New York City.

The image was allegedly taken by a "friend" of Lacan's on a hacked server. Apparently, some in the FO76 community are bashing their own server, which is very unstable, but allows access to parts of the game that are not accessible on the official server.

"It's terribly buggy and constantly [crashes to the desktop], but you can access things that are inaccessible or banned on the official server," Rakan told me in a DM.

It is understandable to be skeptical. These hackers may have stumbled upon an old environment test or an unused prototype of an existing Fallout 76 region. Even if they are from the hacked server, if the ground detail is bright, these shots could have been taken by a mapper playing with Fallout 4 modding tools.

Sadly, it may be a while before we find out; following the Covid-related delays, Expeditions is due in 2022 at the earliest.
