Actual nightmare: ants get into the monitor screen and won't leave.

Today's horror tech story comes from Reddit user UpvotesKitties, who writes, "Ants get inside my monitor and I can't get them out."

As you can see, the nasty little creatures not only crawl inside the monitor, but also cross the screen as if to taunt and It decides to ruin this person's day by flitting about. As much as I fear bugs as much as this woman fears pennies, if a bug crawls across my screen and I can't get rid of it, I will most likely throw that monitor in the trash and set it on fire.

The problem with bugs getting into your stuff, aside from the obvious creep factor, is that they can actually do serious damage to your gear. Bugs have been getting into PC hardware since the dawn of time. The term "computer bug" comes from the actual bugs that flew into computers in the 1940s, and we still haven't found a way to keep them out. The Greatest Generation.

What are your options for getting creepy little crawly bugs out of your gear' you can try a few things. Bugs love to crawl in places that emit heat, because they are safe and comfortable places to lay their eggs. This is why routers and large electronic devices are prime destinations for six-legged tourists.

One option is to turn off the monitors for a few days, making the place less desirable for squatters of the goofball variety, and hope they leave voluntarily. If you are unlucky, you can use compressed air to blow the pests away. In cases like the video above, there is a risk that the ants will get stuck and die where you can see them. In that case, a vibrating toothbrush might be able to wiggle the carcass out of the way. It won't remove the corpse, but at least you won't see it anymore. That's something, too.

The last thing you want to do is actually squash a bug. Doing so will make it nearly impossible to clean up that dirty carcass without disassembling the monitor, and will certainly void your warranty (which, frankly, is just gross). If the ant is still there, consider that this ant is your loss and the monitor is no longer yours. My apologies.
