Outriders" player finds 23 GB crash dump in Windows folder

How's your C drive doing? Lots of free space for next month's Resident Evil Village" If you play Outriders, you may find that you have less free space than you expected: one player found that the game crammed 23 GB worth of crash reports into six folders on his C drive! One player discovered that the game had packed 23 GB worth of crash reports into six folders on his C drive.

We don't know why Outriders stores the crash data equivalent to 7,188 copies of War and Peace. While it is common for Unreal Engine games to dump large amounts of data after a crash (usually the developer is asked if they want to send it to them to determine the cause of the crash), it is not common for games to store huge amounts of crash data on their drives over time. Perhaps People Can Fly will fix this in a future update.

This is the folder where Outriders stores crash reports: Users/[You]/AppData/Local/Madness/Saved.

("Madness" is just a code name for Outriders. If you have experienced crashes, you may have seen "UE4-Madness" crash).

Reddit user Toasteroven47 found a folder with 23 GB of details about the Outriders crash he experienced. They noticed the files in WinDirStat, which visualizes data on Windows drives. (The same problem was noted in another thread a week ago.

It is safe to delete files in that folder.

I have tested this issue myself and Outriders never crashes. So far it's been insanely stable for me, which is probably a good problem to have. However, Morgan, who wrote the Outriders review for PC Gamer, found two reports of Outriders crashing that consumed nearly 1GB. This is obviously not as big a problem as 23GB, but it is enough evidence to say there is a problem. Even 1GB of crash data is more than any game should store on its drive.

I scoured my AppData folder to see if other games were secretly hoarding crash data, but even a game that I know crashes often (Generation Zero) only had a tiny amount of logs. The biggest crash dump I found was for "The Medium" and it was 100MB. I deleted it. Here's my 100MB.

If Outriders crash dumps have been accumulating on your drive, please let me know in the comments how much space you got back.
