Ever since Valheim started up, busy Vikings have been fighting to keep their storage chests organized as often as they fight trolls and gladwarves.

First someone figured out how to stack chests using small wooden shelves, then someone realized that by placing chests horizontally, they could cram more chests into a smaller space. An extensive labeling system using wooden signs was soon put in place, but even so, warehouses with identical chests lined up in rows sometimes became cluttered with surprising ease.

Well, here is a solution to change your Viking storage needs. It's the Item Drawers mod. This very clever mod adds a new craftable box (requires 10 pieces of high quality wood) and turns your storage room into an absolute paragon of organization.

When you put any item or bunch of items in a drawer, the icon for that item appears on the outside of the drawer and the number of that item appears on the outside. It is a beautiful thing indeed. Now you can see not only what items are in the drawer, but also how much of that item you have.

No more opening box after box trying to remember where you packed your spare sausage. No more accidentally putting a dandelion in a box that is supposed to hold ore. No more accidentally clicking on a wooden sign when you're in a hurry to rummage. No more signs! The drawer automatically makes the labels for you.

And it's not just about being able to see your supply status at a glance. Getting items in and out of the drawer is easy, too. Even if you remove all the stacks from the drawer, the icon remains, so even if the honey storage box is empty, you can always designate it as a honey storage box. With a simple click, all items in your inventory are automatically deposited into the matching box, so you can retrieve your honey immediately after a collecting session. And if you want to use that box for something else, you can erase the icon and return it to the empty box.

Each box can only hold one type of item, but the boxes are much smaller than vanilla chests and can be mounted directly on the wall, making it easy to stack them without having to fiddle with shelves. It's a bit of a cheat on the game's storage system, but think of it as Viking magic.
