Outriders' Inventory Erase Bug "Dramatically Reduced," But Not Gone Yet

Square Enix and People Can Fly had a successful cross-play of "Outriders" over the weekend, but have yet to find a plan to fix a nasty bug that causes some inventory to disappear. In fact, Square Enix reported an increase in reports of the bug after the patch was released and said that fixing the bug is "our top priority."

In a new Reddit thread dedicated to the inventory wipe bug, Square Enix said that it had made additional server-side changes that should "drastically reduce" the occurrence of the bug, and only inventory wipes that occurred after 1:00 PM PT (4:00 PM GMT) on April 11 He asked players to report them. Developers are apparently struggling to figure out the issue, but progress seems to be being made.

"Many of these reports seem to be specifically related to starting multiplayer sessions from the Expeditions Outrider camp. If you are concerned about the possibility of this problem, we recommend that you avoid this setup for the time being. However, we are continuing to investigate this issue in more depth, so if you are affected, please provide us with further information so we can better understand this issue.

However, in a subsequent post, Square Enix stated that the issue could still occur in other areas, and that while single player seems to have a lower risk of inventory erasure than multiplayer, "it does not seem to be exempt."

If you encounter inventory-erasure grief, Square Enix offered a "potential prevention method" that might save yours: if you notice that equipment is missing, force quit the game immediately and restart. Maybe you'll get lucky, and if not, the scheduled inventory restoration event is still in progress.

I've contacted Square Enix to ask if there have been any updates since yesterday and will update if I hear back. In the meantime, if Outriders seems to be crashing repeatedly, you might want to check your hard drive space: it turns out that the game is dumping a very large crash log in a folder buried deep in the C: drive.
