Star Wars Battlefront 2 actor Janina Gavankar joins "Borderlands" film

The cast of the "Borderlands" movie continues to grow: Deadline announced today that Janina Gavankar has signed on to play Commander Knox, a new character in the series for the film.

Commander Knox is the daughter of General Knoxx, the evil mastermind from the original "Borderlands" DLC "The Secret Armory of General Knoxx."

Deadline's report on how this character will appear in the film has not been mentioned, but Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford said on Twitter that she "followed in her father's footsteps when she joined Atlas' private army, the Crimson Lance," implying that she's not there to be useful. She is, in a word, badass."

Gavankar may not be as well known as the rest of the "Borderlands" cast, including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Jack Black, but she has appeared in "The Morning Show," "Space Force," "Better Things," Sleepy Hollow," and has appeared in numerous television series in recent years. He will also be familiar to gamers, especially "Star Wars" fans, for his portrayal of Imperial super-commander Eden Verso in "Star Wars Battlefront 2."

Last week, a synopsis for the "Borderlands" movie was released with the news that Edgar Ramirez will play weapons manufacturer Atlas, and it's really cheesy: back on Pandora, Lilith teams up with Roland, Tiny Tina, Krieg, Tanis, and Claptrap to create "Space She must find the daughter of Atlas, "the most powerful S.O.B.

"To find and protect the missing girl who may hold the key to unimaginable power, these unlikely heroes must battle alien monsters and dangerous bandits. The fate of the universe is in their hands, but they will fight for more than that, they will fight for each other.

Maybe, just maybe, it will be even better than we imagined. When last I heard, the film "Borderlands" was in production in Hungary, with no release date yet set.
