Ubisoft to Pull Plug on "Rainbow Six Vegas" Server and 9 Other Games Later This Year

Ubisoft will bid farewell to several vintage Clancyverse games later this year.

"Rainbow Six Vegas," "Rainbow Six Vegas 2," "Rainbow Six Lockdown," and "Ghost Recon Future Soldier" will all have their online servers shut down.

All in-game rewards, redeemable items, achievements, and Ubisoft's own currency will also be disabled. Yes, even if you have already redeemed or unlocked items in the game, you will no longer be able to access them on your PC; no firm date has been set yet for Ubi to pull the plug on these games, and a vague window of 2021 has been given.

It's not just Tom Clancy's games that will be discontinued. Ubisoft will also discontinue servers for a handful of different games on June 1.

Since most of these games are at least a decade old at this point, it is reasonable to assume that they will have little to no multiplayer activity. But it is always a little sad to see these masterpieces quietly shut down; in 2019, a multiplayer project called Dustnet explored the impermanence of the competitive gaming space, putting players into one "final" de_dust2 server, where something could be built. However, if the server ever became vacant, all of the player's creations would be erased. I have fond memories of the nightmarish face-scanning feature in [Rainbow Six Vegas], and its tense "Terrorist Hunt" co-op mode will probably still be around in 2021. Recently, an hour or so of "Rainbow Six Parasite" gameplay was leaked to the Internet.
