World of Warcraft 9.1 Update Finally Available on Beta Servers

World of Warcraft's 9.1 Chains of Domination update, the first major update since Shadowlands was released in November, is still months away. However, if you are specifically interested in what this update will add, an early beta is currently available on WoW's public test server.

As Blizzard previously announced, the 9.1 beta rolled out early this morning. Perhaps most interesting are the balance fixes for all classes in WoW, with dozens of changes to various skills and abilities; Affliction Warlocks, long reigning as WoW's best damage dealers, have been nerfed very heavily. However, they also have a new PVP talent that can trick enemy players into dying, so it's an even trade.

Update 9.1 is not just about class balance. It also adds tons of new activities, story quests, and areas to explore. But only some of them are currently available in the beta: there is a new subzone of Maw, Korthia, and all of its associated quest lines, but no way to play the new mega-dungeon called Tazavesh. Like all new raids, Sanctum of Domination will only be tested intermittently on specific days during the beta cycle, with the first test taking place on April 16 with only two of the ten bosses.

As for the Covenant, there are many new elements to explore. Each Covenant has a new story chapter, as well as 40 renown levels with new rewards and cosmetic gear. A new tier has also been added to the Soul Binding talent tree.

Still, it is hard to get a sense at this early stage of how big 9.1 will be and whether it will be worth the unusually long wait for release. But if you're itching to spoil some of the upcoming storyline right away, you can jump into the beta servers right now.
