Bungie is hiring for a "new franchise" focused on competitive PvP.

A job posting that came to light in June 2020, looking for developers who "want to work on something comedic with lighthearted and whimsical characters," suggested that Bungie was working on at least one project that was not Destiny-like. However, a new listing discovered by DestinyNews+ points to an un-Destiny-like project.

"Do you spend time breaking down the latest PvP game to understand how it works?" the list of multiplayer system designers asks." Do you analyze how the dynamics of team play are affected by everything from moment-to-moment capabilities to high-level macro goals?" "Are you excited about designing a game system that allows for interesting strategic decisions, multiple vectors of player learning, and depth that supports hundreds of hours of gameplay?"

"As a Multiplayer Systems Designer, you will work with the team to prototype a variety of game ideas for production. Most importantly, you will work with a fun, dedicated, and passionate cross-functional team dedicated to turning creative dreams into new franchises at Bungie."

Destiny 2 is known primarily as a multiplayer game, and this recruitment ad could quite easily fit either that game or the inevitable Destiny 3, but the reference to "a new franchise for Bungie" dismisses that possibility . It's also no secret that the studio is looking to branch out beyond Destiny: CEO Pete Parsons said in November 2020 that Bungie has been working on "new incubations" since 2017, and Destiny 2 game director Chris Barrett, who was, currently holds the same title on an unannounced project.

Naturally, there is no name in the job posting, but the "responsibilities" section also points to a very Destiny-like project:

This could be related to a partnership between Bungie and Chinese online gaming company Netease. That investment was made specifically to support the new project: when the deal was announced in 2018, Bungie said its goal was to "transform from a single franchise development team into a global, multi-franchise entertainment studio."

Another interesting note is that familiarity with Unreal Engine and/or Unity is listed as a "nice-to-have" skill: Destiny 2 runs on the same proprietary engine as the original, and Bungie has said that Destiny Although he has stated that he will not be moving to a new engine, "Any future game Bungie makes will not necessarily use Destiny technology if it doesn't make sense for that game.

It will definitely be interesting to see what Bungie, which has only developed two series in the past two decades, "Halo" and "Destiny," will cook up, but it will still be quite some time before they reach that point. 2019, Parsons said that Bungie will be in the 2025 by 2025, he said he hoped to have "other franchises" on the market by then.
