Square Enix "Confident" Latest Patch for "Outriders" Will Fix Inventory Erase Bug

Square Enix announced that it is "confident" that a new patch for Outriders, released today, will finally fix a nasty and persistent bug that was wiping players' inventory. However, he warned that there is still work to be done and that players may encounter strange behavior post-patch.

You may still encounter "multiplayer connection issues" after installing the patch, after which items in your inventory may appear to have disappeared. Fortunately, the items are only "momentarily invisible," but you will need to restart the game (and possibly wait a few minutes) to make them visible again. According to Square Enix, the developers are aiming to clear the remaining "edge cases" in a future update.

Square Enix stresses that the patch is intended to prevent future inventory erasure and has nothing to do with restoring inventory that has already disappeared. However, they want to make sure all the ducks are in a row before taking the next step.

"While we are confident that this patch will prevent future inventory wipes, we will continue to monitor the situation over the weekend to make sure no more players are experiencing related issues before moving on to the restoration process." As soon as we are satisfied with the effectiveness of the patch, we will share further details, including a timeline for the upcoming inventory restoration process."

Despite their confidence, Outriders developers are maintaining an "edge case sub-thread" where players can report inventory wipe incidents that occurred after the patch was installed and which were not resolved by restarting the game. So far it seems to be working: there have been a few reports of inventory loss after the patch, but most of them actually seem to be pre-patch issues.

Square Enix also states that characters encountering "could not connect to server" errors will have their inventory returned and be fully playable again after the restore process runs.
