Season 3 Update for Call of Duty: Warzone is a merciful 25.2 GB

The week of the new season is upon us in the world of Call of Duty, and there have been a series of updates from Activision regarding the next installments of Black Ops - Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone, though we'll find out later this week about changes to Warzone, In the meantime, we do know how much disk space Season 3 will consume, as noted in a new blog post on Cold War Season 3. Activision also confirmed that Season 3 will launch on April 22 through both games.

Downloading updates for "Call of Duty" has a reputation for being huge, but after a huge mid-season patch for Season 2 reduced the overall size of the "warzone," Season 3 looks to be a bit easier. The update sizes for all platforms are as follows:

Warzone

Cold War

The centerpiece of the blog post is the season 3 roadmap for Cold War: four new multiplayer maps, a new score streak, and two more vehicles are currently standard, but there are also four interesting guns and a few fun surprises: just as Cold War's fascination with the classic Black Ops arcade mode, the crossbow/ballistic knife-themed Sticks and Stones mode is back. Yes, that means that ballistic knives will be featured in Cold War/Warzone as well.

Here's the new multiplayer map that will appear in Cold War:

New weapons are also a big deal: we're taking a step back to World War II with the PPSH-41, the classic square-barrel SMG that we couldn't let go of in World at War. Also interesting is the CARV.2, a boxy burst-fire assault rifle similar in shape to the G11 from Black Ops 1, but without the odd top-loading magazine; the PPSH, K31, and Ballistic Knife will all appear in the first week of Season 3, while the rest will appear later (in possibly mid-season turnover).

Season 3 also adds four new operators, one of which is the 1984 version of Captain Price. The jungle-themed operators of Season 2 did nothing for me, so I look forward to seeing Lace and Knight's cold-weather looks. Lace and Price are the only operators to drop at the launch of Season 3.

The Cold War update will be tomorrow, April 20 at 9pm PT, and the Warzone update will be 24 hours later on April 21 at 9pm PT. If you play both games, you will need to download them separately. Season 3 will not officially "launch" until April 22, so the content included in these updates may not be accessible until Activision decides to do so.

These are the highlights of Season 3, but there are holes that have yet to be filled. It may be a revamped version of the Verdansk map that was leaked a few weeks ago.
