Oops: Steam accidentally excluded Rockstar games from the sale earlier today.

Earlier today, a number of Rockstar games, including "Grand Theft Auto 5," "Red Dead Redemption 2," "LA Noire," "Max Payne 3," and "Bully," were "retired" from Steam, meaning they are no longer available in the store, causing a brief uproar . Fortunately, that turned out to be a mistake, and everything is back.

This fiasco was recorded on SteamDB. If not so many years had passed, this series of database changes would have been immediately interpreted as a technical problem, but Rockstar's own launcher, the Epic Games Store (recall that when "RDR2" appeared on PC in 2019, it was semi-exclusive for a short time), etc. ), the proliferation of storefronts outside of Steam made me think for a moment that Rockstar may be making a major move toward establishing its own storefront as a standalone player.

However, within 30 minutes of the removal, all games were "unretired" and sales resumed. Officials from both companies told PC Gamer that the incident was entirely accidental.

While the errors were being fixed, another accident occurred: the best street racing game from 2003, Midnight Club 2, which was delisted from Steam in early 2018 (reportedly because the soundtrack license expired), along with everything else was put back on sale, along with everything else.

Even though it was clearly unintentional, I unrealistically hoped that Rockstar would let it slide. Alas, it did not: about an hour after the sale resumed, it was removed again. The good news is that at least a few people seem to have been able to get their hands on it before it was taken off sale; according to Steamcharts, Midnight Club 2's peak concurrent player count rose to 40 today, its highest since August 2017.
