Celeste and Towerfall Studios Announces New Action Game Set in a "Seamless Pixel Art World"

Earthblade is an exploration action game set in a "seamless pixel-art world" and is being developed by Extremely OK Games, creators of Celeste and Towerfall Extremely OK Games, the company behind Celeste and Towerfall, is developing the game. From the teaser below, it appears to be set in a lush fantasy world, but according to the developer, this is an "atmospheric reveal," so that's all we can say at this stage.

Other known facts: the music is by Lena Raine, the acclaimed soundtrack composer who worked on Celeste and has also contributed to Minecraft and Guild Wars 2 (she has also released her own album). This is also the fourth game prototype the studio has worked on following the success of Celeste, and follows several unfinished ideas in the form of Prototype EXOK 1-3.

"Prototypes EXOK 1-3 taught us a lot, but ultimately took us too far out of our comfort zone to realistically complete," wrote director Maddy Thorson. It took some time, but we feel that we have settled on just the right compromise between the two in "Earthblade."

Don't expect regular and plentiful updates for "Earthblade" just yet, though: Thorson writes in the same blog post that it will "probably be a while" before we get more information about the project. He writes, "During development, we've had many discussions about how we should talk about this game, and while we were working on 'Celeste,' we were basically tweeting about whatever interesting things we were working on on a daily basis, whenever we felt like sharing." But an air of mystery fits this project especially well.

No word on when that reveal will be, but in the meantime, enjoy the teaser art (click "see more" to enlarge):
