General
Steam will stop crashing for the few who have more than 25,000 games.

Steam currently has just over 51,000 games, but until recently, owning even half of those games made the client prone to crashes.

An update to Steam's beta client yesterday fixed a potential crash problem if you own more than 25,000 games in your library. As noted by the r/pcmasterrace user who discovered the patch, this may mean that someone who currently owns such a huge collection noticed the problem and reported it to Valve.

It is a bit difficult to determine how many people this issue has affected; Steam's analysis site Steamladder currently lists three people as having crossed this threshold. However, looking at the profiles published on Steam, it appears that this number does not include hidden games and does not show as many people; SteamDB has its own chart that tracks users who appear to own more than 25,000 games, with associated badges It has a page for SteamDB, and estimates that there are hundreds more; according to the SteamDB page, Steam user Sonix appears to own a staggering 42,061 titles.

Of course, this is only a small problem discovered by Valve's own testing, and it is possible that Steam is more stable for those with ludicrous library counts: in 2020 alone, 10,263 games will be added to Steam's size One way or another. Collectors' libraries are only going to grow, and while it is possible to debate who actually owns the most games on the platform, it is unlikely that the client will become any more unburdensome for collectors.
