Teamfight Tactics may eventually leave the League of Legends client.

Since the launch of League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics has existed as a small extra within the League of Legends client. But Riot suggests that its home may not become permanent as the game grows beyond its MOBA spin-off roots.

At the very least, product owner Winston Baker has an idea of where the game may be headed in the future; speaking to PC Gamer, Baker discussed TFT's plans to build its own identity beyond LoL, saying that Autobattler sees the possibility of eventually graduating from its MOBA roots.

"A lot of it basically comes down to how best to serve the players," Baker said. And Baker: "When we set out to launch TFT, the best way to do it was to use an existing client for LoL. As the game grows and develops its own identity, yes, we are definitely looking into the possibility of moving. It depends on how much we are willing to invest and how much our players love the game."

Perhaps the benefit of TFT being included in the league client is that players who play both will be able to easily move back and forth between the two clients. However, Baker explains that not many people play both League and TFT.

"What we've actually found is that there are more regular TFT players than we originally expected... It's not like League of Legends modes Summoner's Rift or All Random All Mid... TFT is a completely different TFT is a completely different game. So I think it's to be expected that it's a completely different genre." [Of course, Baker doesn't have any concrete plans. But TFT is already much more than just a spin-off of League of Legends, a hugely popular autobattler that sometimes has more than 10 million daily active players. Don't be surprised if, sooner or later, you end up playing on an entirely new client.
