Valheim developer previews more images from "Hearth and Home"

As the Viking survival game "Valheim" enters its fourth month of release, and with a staggering 7 million players, fans are (mostly patiently!) waiting for the first major update. The update, dubbed "Hearth and Home" on Valheim's roadmap, will "focus on the house-building aspect of the game and increase what you can do in and around your home," according to Iron Gate Studios.

We got a tiny glimpse of the Hearth and Home update last month in the form of an image of a wooden raven, and today the developer somehow revealed an even tinier look.

The two images, which are actually just fragments of two screenshots, hint at something new coming in Valheim's first major update. What these image fragments reveal has already been speculated on by the game's bustling and curious subreddit, and we have our own theories: click here to see the images posted by Iron Gate; click here to see the images posted by the game's editorial board; click here to see the images posted by the game's editorial board; click here to see the images posted by the game's editorial board. Squint to see them.

The first image shows what looks like Viking boots, sitting on a throne that may (or may not) be the Raven Throne, already in the game. Or it could be the bottom of an armor stand. Or maybe they are showing us their new boots (technically new leggings, since boots are not a separate armor item).

And in the upper left corner of the image is something that looks like it could be. Potatoes? A gold coin or a gold nugget? A 'lump of clay' It is difficult, if not impossible, to say. It could be gold for gilding or making ornaments, potatoes for cooking, or clay for making bricks in a kiln.

As for the second image, it appears to be a trench dug into the earth, with a bottom of... Water" Perhaps a water supply will be added and the Vikings will be able to properly irrigate for agriculture. A new terrain system was recently added along with a hoe buff (and hoe nerf), so new hydrology is also a possibility.

Or it could be tar. Because it is mentioned that tar pits may be included in the future. Tar could be used for building improvements like waterproofing wood. It might be good for outdoor structures that warp or deteriorate when wet.

There are also some small lumps in the trench, which could be gold, clay, or something else entirely." This last photo will be a fairly large part of the update, and there are many new items associated with it.

At this point, I can only speculate. My personal guess is that clay is a new resource that can be dug near water, and new building items like bricks can be made from clay. As for the image of the boots, I would bet on something like an armor stand. But I really don't know.

I wonder! And it will be a while before we know. In a developer update, he said, "We don't want to rush it, we want to take our time until we are satisfied with it."

In the meantime, at least we can enjoy driving around Valheim. That's because one clever modder has added actual cars to the game.
