Yokowo Tarou questions sales of "Nia Replicant" because "Automata was a 'fluke.

NieR Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... arrived today." Even in its remastered version, "NieR" remains a singular and sometimes tedious game. But it's also one of the most memorable games I've ever played, and the remastered version captures and enhances its greatness in every way."

One person who does not share this enthusiasm for the game is Yoko Taro, the creative director of the "Nier" games. In a message posted on Square Enix's website, he reminded everyone that "Nier Replicant" is merely a "version up" of the original released on the PS3 in 2010, and predicted that "none of his games will sell well because they don't."

"Whenever I've been around Square Enix in the last few years, they've always had an aura of enthusiasm that says, 'Look! I feel a kind of enthusiasm like: 'Automata (the previous title) sold well, so Nier Replicant will sell well too. I would like to take this opportunity to tell Square Enix to take a good look at reality. Only the name is similar, and the content of the two games is completely different, so how can it sell so well now, guys?"

"I mean, come on, I made it! It just so happens that Automata sold well, and most of the others didn't. If you really want to manufacture all these discs and store them in a pile in a warehouse somewhere, the only thing you could do with them would be a game of Frisbee. However, ...... That sounds like a lot of fun. ......"

Unusual for the attitude a creative director takes about his game, Yoko Taro is quite well known as a bit of an oddball, so much so that there is a book about him, "The Strange Works of Yoko Taro," published in 2019. There is even a book about him, The Strange Works of Yoko Taro, which was published in 2019. But his partner in the project, producer Yosuke Saito, has spoken of his own doubts, albeit with at least a backup plan.

"The huge success of 'NieR: Automata' was honestly something of a miracle, so I don't expect it to sell that well. ...... If it doesn't sell to some extent, Yoko-san and I will be traveling around the world selling games in the back of a van. Oh, and Okabe-san, you're coming with us. 'So please continue to support the NieR series. Please, anything but a van. ......"

Yokowo Tarou recently admitted that he is working on another new game at Square Enix, but he doesn't seem too excited about it either: he described it in a live stream last week as "a little different game" and said, "How to explain it, how to sell it. I don't know."
