Metro Exodus" Enhanced Edition is free for existing users, but requires substantial hardware to run.

Leaving the terror-filled tunnels of the Moscow Metro behind, "Metro Exodus," a semi-open world tour of post-apocalyptic Russia, is now several years old. If you missed the first playthrough or have bought a new video card since then and want to play it, the upcoming "Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition" may be the perfect fit.

The Enhanced Edition features a "complete ray-tracing lighting pipeline" and various optimizations to the game's already impressive visuals, including advanced ray-traced reflections, support for NVIDIA hardware DLSS 2.0 , upgrades, and new features. According to developer 4A Games, this must be released as an entirely separate game and cannot be patched into an existing game.

The good news is that existing "Exodus" owners can claim the Enhanced Edition for free, but the bad news is that ray tracing is not an option: if your cards don't support it, you're out of luck. Steam, Existing save data in Epic and GOG can be transferred between editions (but not the Microsoft Store save files, since they are "encrypted in a cloud solution for each product"), and the "chapter unlock" feature allows players to unlock the entire directly to later levels without having to replay them. The Enhanced Edition will not be available on Stadia or Amazon Luna, nor will the Linux and Mac versions.

The following are required to play:

Minimum (1080p/45 fps)

Recommended (1080p/60 fps)

High (1440p/60 fps)

Ultra (4K/30 fps)

RT Extreme (4K/60 fps)
