Apex Legends' Brutal Bug Lets Players Enter Matches Alone

A particularly nasty bug in Apex Legends is that if you check "Fill Teammates" before matchmaking, it will accidentally drop players without teammates in trios, duos, and even arena matches. I'm beginning to think the game hates me because I've dropped into Olympus three times alone.

Respawn is aware of the issue, but there is no word yet on when a fix will be distributed; in a Reddit post about the persistence of the bug, Ryan Rigley, director of communications at Respawn, expressed He expressed frustration that it is still there.

"God, I hate this bug. We fixed some of them in the season update and we thought that would fix them. We'll just have to try again."

Players first began experiencing accidental solo drops shortly after the "Fill Teammates" button was introduced in the March Chaos Theory event update. Affected players have offered a variety of theories about what caused the bug and how to work around it, but even reports from players who have repeatedly encountered the bug since March have been less consistent. [For example, Reddit users' experiences with Uncredited1 vary, but seem to be cyclical. 'I only play in trios. For the first three or four games, it's one person or one teammate. Then I play five or six games with a full team. It's a cycle. There are good days and bad days.

Until we finally find a solution, we are pretty much out of luck. What makes the squadfill bug so frustrating is that we can't realize it's happening fast enough to back out of matchmaking. It is only after the matchmaking has run its course, all players are loaded, and we are finally greeted by a lonely character select screen, that we learn that we have been hit by this bug.

On the bright side, this is a great opportunity to drop into the hot zone with nothing to lose and finally become a better Apex shooter.
