CD Projekt Red is asking modders to upgrade "The Witcher 3" to next-generation consoles.

The Witcher 3 is preparing a shiny next-gen release for consoles, but it will be available as a free update for us PC adventurers. Now it seems that CD Projekt Red is asking for help from modders to make the RPG more polished for 2015.

As Kotaku discovered, the creator of the texture upscaling mod "The Witcher 3 HD Reworked" explained his recent silence on the project: CDPR contacted him about the graphical touchups and told him that "HDRP is an official very likely to be included in the next generation update" and that he had been warned that "it is very likely that it will be included in the next generation update.

CDPR confirmed the collaboration in a statement to Kotaku, adding: "In addition to our own development efforts on the next generation version of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, which will be released for the Xbox series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC, the 2015 release of We are also in discussions with the creators of various mods for the game."

The developer clarified that there is no binding contract with the modders, which also means that CDPR cannot reveal whether it plans to pay these developers.

The Witcher 3 mod scene has been steadily progressing since the game's release six years ago. While the improved graphics are a natural scouting ground for CDPR's mod hunters, I think the next-gen Witcher can be even bolder. After all, it may be time to legitimize Henry Cavill's Geralt in The Witcher 3."
