Activision Ends Work with Call of Duty Voice Actor Accused of Sex Discrimination

Update: After this article was published, Jeff Leach issued the following statement. The full statement is as follows:

Several members of the media have asked me about my statement. As you know, passion is a double-edged sword. First and foremost, I am deeply passionate about creating great work, sharing that work with audiences, and using that work to inspire, entertain, educate, and connect more closely with the community. This extends to my work as an actor, my live streams, and my online contacts within the gaming community. That will continue to be the case.

On the other side of my passion, however, I have also reacted passionately and lost control in situations where I felt attacked, targeted, or harassed. My ramblings against them were not only wrong, but also the antithesis of my relationship with the fanbase and the overarching message I was trying to promote.

Transparency is a big proponent of my online content. Anyone who has bothered to watch some of the 40+ hours of live content I produce each week knows this. However, the use of vitriolic language online has always had the power to cause harm. As foolish as I have behaved, I am not an uneducated person, nor am I naive to this fact. That is one of the reasons I have been so vocal on my platform about ending the toxicity and hate speech that exists in so many aspects of this industry.

I regret that I have misrepresented my true intentions and apologize to any individuals or business partners who may have been negatively impacted by these rants. This includes my wonderful supporters, the moderators who have worked tirelessly to protect our small online community, and the businesses that have given me opportunity and trust and let me down. [I want everyone to know that I appreciate the words of support and understanding I have received, that lessons have been learned, that my feelings are improving, and that I will continue to be transparent and accountable to those who are generous enough to give me their time and attention.

Mr. Leach's lawyers also claim that the "Call of Duty" developer did not sever ties with the actor because of his offensive remarks, and that he and Activision agreed to a mutual separation in March 2021.

Original story follows:

Earlier this month, streamer NitroLukeDX posted a series of gender-insulting clips of voice actor Jeff Leach, who plays an operator codenamed "Ghost" in "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare" and "Warzone" posted a series of clips on Twitter in which he makes gender-insulting remarks. The clips include Leach insulting streamer ZombiUnicorn in 2017, saying he relied on his "horrific cleavage," for which he was banned from Twitch at the time, and a more recent clip of Leach streaming Warzone on FacebookGaming, in which he More recent comments directed at another player while streaming Warzone on FacebookGaming are shown: "Suck my fat girthy pussy, you stupid pussy."

ZombiUnicorn, in a video calling for FacebookGaming and Activision to take responsibility for their partnership with Leach He said, "This is unacceptable. People like Jeff Leach will not change. They haven't changed and they never will. Some people make mistakes, take responsibility, and understand that they were wrong. They reflect, get therapy, work on it, and try to be better people. This is not the same situation. This is an example of someone who has been engaging in the same misogynistic, horrific, and malicious behavior for years."

As CharlieIntel reported, Activision is now cutting ties with Reach. We contacted Activision and received the same statement: "Sexism does not exist in our industry, our games, or our society. Activision will no longer work with Jeff Leach. We strongly condemn these statements. We are committed to providing a fun and safe experience for all players."

Leach responded on Twitter, stating that the clip was taken out of context, showing "me destroying a troll in chat" and was chosen "to fit a character-disparaging narrative."
