Ubisoft now refers to all internally developed games as "Ubisoft Originals.

Ubisoft has begun branding games developed in-house as "Ubisoft Originals."

In an interview with Eurogamer, a Ubisoft spokesperson stated, "From now on, all Ubisoft games created in-house by our talented developers will be labeled "Ubisoft Original,"" and that the label will be used for all future in-house games

"Ubisoft will use this label for all future in-house games.

The first game branded "Ubisoft Original" appeared last week. At the time, Andy wondered if "Heartland" would be a massive battle royale game, or if it would be similar to the "EA Originals" stamp that EA uses for indie games like "Unravel," "Sea of Solitude" and "It Takes Two. We wondered if it was something like that.

We now know that it simply means that a studio under Ubisoft is producing the game.

The odd thing about labels like Netflix is that Ubisoft develops almost all of its own games. Smaller games like "Brawlhalla," developed by Blue Mammoth Games (which Ubisoft acquired in 2018), and larger franchises like "Assassin's Creed," both seem to be considered Ubisoft originals. Ubisoft did not comment on whether it plans to step up publishing of outside games, but it would make sense if Ubisoft is already trying to make the distinction.

Perhaps Ubisoft does not want to be left behind by Epic Games, which recently signed publishing deals with GenDesign, Play Dead, and Remedy. We may get some answers at Ubisoft's E3 conference this June.
