New PvE Survival Mode "Daybreak" May Be Added to Fortnite

Epic may be preparing to introduce a new PvE survival sandbox for Fortnite.

As Eurogamer discovered, Fortnite's latest update includes a reference to the "open world simulation sandbox" that leaker Hypex teased earlier this month. Various leaks indicate that Daybreak will take place on a completely different map than Battle Royale, with players hunting monsters, scavenging for items, crafting, and then repairing a helicopter to escape with other players before the game's third night.

The mode is said to have PvE and PvP variations, and leakers Hypex and Sizzy also teased a new umbrella reward for completing the round.

The leaked description of this mode reads: "You wake up unarmed and alone on the shore of an island. Quickly search for weapons and ammunition before night falls and creatures begin to roam the hillsides in search of prey. Keep an eye out for other stranded people. They may become invaluable allies in your fight for survival on an increasingly hostile island.

Granted, "Fortnite" already has a PvE survival mode that predates the game's hugely popular battle royale mode, and while Save The World may lie in relative obscurity, Epic is interested in bringing elements of the original Fortnite to Battle Royale, and they seem interested in bringing them back to the game. If these leaks are accurate, Daybreak looks to be a tighter experience.

Of course, none of this has been officially confirmed by Epic's official channels. However, if the leaks are solid, more details will be given when the 16.40 patch notes are released later today.
