Image & Form announced that it is working on "several new SteamWorld games" and also announced a future name change following its merger with Thunderful Development.

Image & Form has not announced how many SteamWorld games are in the works, but a ResetEra post points to Thunderful's 2020 financial report. According to the report, at least four new games are in the works, all to be released around 2022 and 2023. It is unclear what SteamWorld games are in development, but a cheeky tweet reply suggests that SteamWorld Dig 3 is one of them.

The studio also revealed its relationship with Thunderful Development, with the two, which have been under the Thunderful Group umbrella since 2017, merging fully in 2020.

"The Image & Form team has been part of Thunderful for some time now." We are no longer an independent studio from Thunderful, but you can continue to expect quality games by the same people (and new faces)!"

It was also confirmed that the merged studio will operate under a new name in the future, with a follow-up tweet stating, "Name change coming soon! New handle will be announced at that time."

The new name will be announced at a later date.

The last SteamWorld game to be released was SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech, which was released on Steam in 2019 SteamWorld Dig 2 is arguably Image & Form's most popular game in the series, and we named it one of the best indie games on PC.
