MSI Warns of Malicious Site Containing Malware in Afterburner Overclocking Utility
[At least one scam site mimics MSI's download page for the popular Afterburner GPU utility, and MSI warns that if you download and install the program from the URL in question, you are likely to be infected with malware.

"MSI is writing to inform you that there is malicious software masquerading as official MSI Afterburner software." This malicious software is under the domain namehttps://afterburner-msi.space.を持つMSIの公式サイトになりすました不審なウェブサイトで違法にホストされています。" MSI has nothing to do with this website or the aforementioned domain.

According to MSI, the Afterburner software hosted at that particular domain may contain a variety of malware, including Trojan viruses and keyloggers. Attempts were made to retrieve the files so that a virus scan could be performed, but it appears that the site has either been banned or moved to another domain after malicious actors drew attention from MSI's warnings.

Either way, this is a reminder to double-check the URL when downloading software and make sure you are getting the files directly from the source. And in this instance, it is quite possible that the malware-laced version of Afterburner has found a new home on the Web.

To be clear, the legitimate Afterburner tools on MSI's actual website have not been compromised in any way and are "safe to use." Not only can you overclock your graphics card with Afterburner, but you can also use the GPU fan curves can be tweaked, undervolted, and other adjustments can be made to lower graphics card temperatures.

What if I have already downloaded and installed a compromised version? We also recommend cleaning up your system with the free version of Malwarebytes, which can detect and eradicate malicious bits that AV programs sometimes miss.
