Mass Effect: Legendary Edition" Project Director Discusses Possible Multiplayer Revival
[One of the biggest shortcomings of Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, at least in my eyes, is the multiplayer support. Small squads of players battle increasingly difficult waves of enemies in arenas built for different purposes. I really miss playing this multiplayer mode.

BioWare has opted to remove multiplayer support from the Legendary Edition. Project Director Mac Walters said in February, "Our focus was on the single-player experience, and I think at some point we had to draw the line. I've said that people love the multiplayer in ME3 and still play it, but ultimately, I think the product, ME.LE as a whole, is a better representation of the original ME: LE because it allowed us to focus on the single player elements, and the original trilogy, I think it better represented the original trilogy.

But there may be hope for those who, like me, are eager for a revival; in an interview with CNet, Walters said there is at least room for possibility.

"We'll see how the Legendary Edition is received and how much demand there is for multiplayer. And then we'll ask ourselves if we have the resources and time to bring it up to the level of quality that we and the fans want."

The "never say never" kind of answer is as non-committal as it gets, but it's all we have right now. And while it may be overly optimistic, I think it's a realistic, if still faint, possibility: the exclusion of multiplayer from "Mass Effect 3" has sparked pure disappointment, but if interest in the game doesn't cool off within a week, maybe BioWare can do what's best for "Mass Effect" may decide that the best thing they can do now is to give that great multiplayer another chance to shine.
