Upgrading to a Wi-Fi 6 router need not be expensive.

General
Upgrading to a Wi-Fi 6 router need not be expensive.

If you need a new wireless router and don't want to spend too much, the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) model is still available. Prices are down significantly from the regular price of $149.99.

The router sells for $66.21, which is a bargain on its own. However, there is a $10 coupon available. Check the coupon box on the product page (located below the sale price) and the discount will be applied.

Admittedly, the AX1800 is not Netgear's top model, and it can't dethrone the best gaming router money can buy. However, it does take advantage of the Wi-Fi 6 protocol. There are several reasons why gamers should pay attention to Wi-Fi 6.

But one of the main advantages is that Wi-Fi 6 is specifically designed to handle multiple connected devices simultaneously. As such, it utilizes MU-MIMO (or multi-user, multi-input, multi-output) like Wi-Fi 5 and OFDMA (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access), which Wi-Fi 5 does not have.

OFDMA allows routers to split the channel and handle traffic from multiple devices simultaneously. It can also serve entire blocks to a single device, depending on the situation. This requires a Wi-Fi 6 router and a device with a Wi-Fi 6 adapter, both of which are becoming more common.

This model from Netgear is a dual-band router that offers speeds of up to 600 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 1,200 Mbps on the 5 GHz band. It also has a built-in gigabit switch with four wired LAN ports.

This model has no USB ports, so if that is an absolute must (to share non-wireless printers or storage devices on your network), you may want to look elsewhere. Otherwise, this is an affordable ticket to Wi-Fi 6 connectivity.
