Oculus head Hugo Barra leaves Facebook.

Hugo Barra, vice president of Facebook Reality Labs and Partnerships for Oculus and Facebook, has left the company.Barra, who had been with the company since 2017, oversaw the development of Oculus Go, Quest, and Quest 2, the company's most successful headsets.

"Personal news: Today is my last day at Facebook Reality Labs," Barra announced on his Facebook page.

"I've spent four years working on some of the most exciting and challenging projects I've encountered in my career, and with some of the brightest and kindest people I've ever met.

"... When I look back at what we have accomplished together with Oculus Go, Quest, and Quest 2, I am truly beyond proud. And I am equally excited about what is yet to come this year as we begin to connect the dots from today's VR headsets to tomorrow's AR glasses, starting with the launch of Facebook's Smart Glasses in partnership with Rayban."

Facebook's smart glasses are reportedly coming this year and are poised to be a stepping stone to the first AR glasses. However, the first pair to be made in partnership with Ray-Ban cannot yet be called AR glasses, as they will not offer an integrated display.

Bala said the company is moving into the healthcare technology field after reflecting on the impact and response to the global coronavirus pandemic.

"I hope to use what I have learned working in the consumer technology industry to help solve meaningful problems in the healthcare world. I look forward to sharing more soon!"

Facebook and Oculus will continue to tick away. Facebook's next VR project may be the Oculus Quest Pro, which Andrew Bosworth, another vice president at Facebook Reality Labs, said is in the works, though not scheduled to launch this year.

Quest 2 owners can also look forward to the release of Resident Evil 4 later this year.
