Guilty Gear Voice Actor Steps Down to 'Help Black Actresses Get More Work'

Popular voice actress Erin Fitzgerald has stepped down from her role as Guilty Gear's Lambretal Valentine in order to "get more work for black actresses holding the microphone."

Fitzgerald, who voiced the character in the Guilty Gear Xrd game, confirmed on Twitter that she had stepped down from the role after fellow voice actress Laura Stahl announced that she would be the new voice of Lambretal in the upcoming Guilty Gear Strive

"Yes.

"Yes, everyone who messaged me, I have gladly stepped down so that I can cast more appropriately," Fitzgerald wrote in a quote retweet to Stahl's announcement. When asked for further clarification, she replied: "The character is black, but I am not black. I support more work for black actresses holding the microphone."

Stoll, who recently dubbed Barbara and Xinyan in Phantom Impact in English, responded to Fitzgerald's tweet and praised the decision. He wrote: "I asked for clarification on the situation before taking on the role of Lambrettal. I have deep respect for Erin not only as an actor but also as a wonderful human being. Thank you for your kindness. You are phenomenal."

Guilty Gear Strive will be released on June 11 after being delayed to February.
