Two blindfolded speedruns are planned for the Summer 2021 game competition.

I'm not sure I understand the appeal of speedruns; completing Fallout: NewVegas in under 15 minutes is certainly an accomplishment, and I respect the effort and ingenuity required to pull it off, but I don't want to sit and watch for hours on end. But many others don't, which is why events like the Summer Games Done Quick, a week-long speedrun extravaganza for charity starting July 4

, are so important. For example, the first game is the 100-hour RPG "Dragon Age: Inquisition," which, according to speedrun.com, can be finished in under 30 minutes if you know what you're doing; "Max Payne 2," despite being a much shorter game, has nearly the same speedrun record.

Frictional's "Penumbra" trilogy also made the list, as did "GTA3," "Dishonored," "The Evil Within 2," "Dead Space," "Earthworm Jim," "Mass Effect 2," "Fight Crab , "I Am Fish," the "Deep Stone Crypt" raid in "Destiny 2," and "Doom Eternal:" The entire event runs for a week, so no one lounges around playing these games.

There are also a couple of games scheduled that may not be particularly quick, but are fun to watch anyway: "Truckmania Nations Forever" and "Super Mario 64. Believe it or not, two of the speedrunners (Wirtual in Trackmania and Bubzia in Super Mario) have successfully played blindfolded before.

Funds raised from the event will go to support Doctors Without Borders. Last year's event raised $2.3 million for this medical aid organization.Summer Games Done Quick 2021 will take place July 4-11 and will be streamed on Twitch. The full schedule and other details can be found at gamesdonequick.com.
