No new Hollow Knight expected: no news on Silksong at this year's E3

Not to alarm fans, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, Director of Marketing and PR for Team Cherry, recently announced on the Hollow Knight Discord that no new Hollow Knight announcements or blog posts are planned: No Silksong announcements or blog posts were scheduled for this year's E3.

Since E3 is still perceived as a gaming event where many studios are waiting to make announcements and expectations tend to be high, Griffin is telling people not to get their hopes up, which should take some pressure off both the team and the waiting fans.

The last information about Silksong's development came from an exclusive article in the February 2021 issue of Edge Magazine. In it, game designer William Peren and animator Ali Gibson say that for Hornet, who originally planned to adventure as a DLC Hollow Knight, playing in an entirely new environment was a better option.

"The core of the world primarily reflects Hornet. She is very fast and capable in combat, so we had to design her enemies, and her nature as a character is reflected in the way the world is set up.

It also led to the design of the many traps and surprising enemies in Silkson's New World Far Room. Even the Hornet's recovery method makes a significant change to the way the game feels to play, but Silksong should still feel "on par" with Hollow Knight in terms of difficulty.

With an entirely new world, a different heroine, and more agile combat, it's easy to see how much more Team Cherry has to do; Hollow Knight's huge success and expectations for a sequel may also have influenced their decision not to reveal too much prematurely. After all, Hollow Knight lives and dies by its sense of mystery.
