If you've been keeping track of Windows 10 updates, you know that a semi-annual Windows update is scheduled. If not, it's not a day too late: the 21H1 update can be downloaded from the Control Panel.

If you really want to get the latest features, you can force the Windows 10 Update process to run: just go to Windows Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update and press the "Check for Updates" button! .

You must already be running Windows 10 version 2004 (May 2020 update) or higher to receive updates, but as long as you have this, you are all set.

For the rest of us, new Windows updates will be available over the next few weeks, so don't worry if your machine doesn't provide updates right away. Microsoft will attempt to deliver the updates first to those devices that they believe are least likely to experience problems, and then to all other devices. If a problem does occur, Microsoft will probably hold off on updating the affected devices.

The update is relatively slim and contains only a few features and bug fixes, so there is no particular rush to get it; Windows Hello now supports multiple cameras, and Windows Defender's Application Guard has improved performance. There are also new features in WMI Group Policy, which should be of interest to remote work administrators.

There is also the fact that Windows' recent track record of not dropping frame rates on gaming consoles with harmless updates is not very good.

As such, it is not well suited for PC gaming. Some features that were planned for this update have been deferred to a later release, which should mean that more exciting changes will be made in the Sun Valley 21H2 update.
