JJ Abrams insists that the movie "Portal" will still happen.

A JJ Abrams-directed adaptation of "Portal" is still "in active development" at Warner Bros, the director told IGN earlier today.

Talk of a film adaptation of "Portal" and "Half-Life" first surfaced in 2013, when Abrams was in talks with Valve boss Gabe Newell about a possible film adaptation. Aside from a few small announcements, we have heard little from either project since.

At a press event for the 4K release of Super 8 (for which a playable teaser was shown within Portal 2), Abrams told IGN that the Portal project is still on track.

"We're actually in the process of writing a script for a 'Portal' movie [at Warner Bros.]," Abrams said. 'We're very excited about that take and the pitch.'

Sadly, the "Half-Life" film adaptation was not so lucky. Abrams said that his production company, Bad Robot, is currently "not actively involved" in the project. No director or casting has been announced, and Abrams is not prepared to reveal who wrote the script currently being passed around to WB.

Turning a largely silent, first-person puzzle of portals into a feature film also seems like a daunting challenge. Abrams, however, is excited about the challenge, saying that there are many ways to enter the world of "Portal," of which the game provided only hints.

"It has great potential for many reasons. One of them is because the story of the game is limited, and the more original the story is told, the greater the potential. It's going to be super fun.
