Crucial's MX500, a 2 TB SSD ideal for bulk storage, is reduced to $154

This ranking of the best SSDs for gaming features just one, the SATA-based Crucial MX500, and while we're spotlighting the 1TB model, the 2TB model with twice the capacity is a better deal right now, down to $153.99 on Amazon

This is a fixed price.

This is $76 less than the list price of $229.99. While it typically sells for slightly less than MSRP, street prices over the past three months have typically ranged between $185 and $215. Also, according to price-tracking website CamelCamelCamel, the drive has never been below $179.99.

In other words, this is the lowest price ever. Of course, this is a 2.5" form factor SATA model, so you won't get the blazing speeds that NVMe SSDs in the M.2 form factor can deliver. However, the sequential read and write rated speeds are 560 MB/s and 510 MB/s, respectively, much faster than mechanical HDDs. [At this time, even SATA-based SSDs with these speeds are ideal for gaming, as is possible with the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as developers begin to take advantage of Microsoft's DirectStorage API and faster PCIe 4.0 (and 3.0) SSDs, it will be some time before they can make better use of them.

There is no need to use this as a boot drive. At this sale price, the 2TB MX500 is a somewhat cost-effective secondary drive for managing large amounts of storage and a secondary home for your ever-growing Steam library.

Simply put, it couldn't be cheaper for 2TB of SSD storage. Looking at Newegg, for example, the least expensive 2TB model is a $174.99 (sale price) drive from a company called Leven.
