The release of "Axiom Verge 2" has been delayed, but there is a free "making of" documentary to watch instead.

Three months after it was decided that "Axiom Verge 2" would be released exclusively on the Epic Games Store for PC, it has been delayed. Creator Thomas Happ announced that he needed more time to complete "Axiom Verge 2," which was scheduled to be released in the first half of 2021.

"I could go into a lengthy explanation as to why it is taking longer than originally anticipated, but I don't want to get too hung up on technical details," Happ said.

"The more time we have," Hupp said, "the better the game will be and the less we have to crunch to meet our self-imposed deadlines.

To help heal the wounds of disappointment, Happ is releasing a documentary about the behind-the-scenes making of "Axiom Verge" for free on Steam and streaming it on IGN.

The documentary was filmed by 2 Player Productions, whose projects include deep dives into Mojang and Double Fine, and was originally intended to show Happ's "disastrous foray into the retail world" with Axiom Verge Multiverse Edition"; as Leadman Games' Dan Adelman explains in this 2019 Twitter thread, the Multiverse Edition release was deeply problematic and ultimately resulted in a lawsuit against publisher Badland Games.

Axiom Verge 2, in case you haven't already heard, is "part of the same story" as Axiom Verge, but is a "completely new game" with new characters, abilities, enemies, and world. It also appears that the game can be played before or after this game, so you can play it out of the blue and check out the previous game later without missing out on the new one.
