Microsoft CEO Says "Next Generation" of Windows is Near

In his keynote address at Microsoft's Build conference on Tuesday, CEO Satya Nadella talked about a major Windows update. CEO Nadella did not give details, but he called that update "the next generation of Windows," not just Windows 10. This makes it seem likely that whatever Nadella is talking about will be the most significant update to the operating system since its debut in 2015.

"Soon, I will share one of the most significant Windows updates of the past decade to unlock greater economic opportunities for developers and creators," Nadella said in his keynote address. I've been self-hosting this update for the past few months, and I'm very excited about the next generation of Windows. My promise to you is this: we will create more opportunities for all Windows developers today and welcome all creators looking for the most innovative, new, open platform to build, distribute and monetize their applications. We look forward to sharing more soon."

Build is a developer conference, so Nadella was speaking to a specific audience there. But the "next generation" of Windows will also be significant for PC gamers. The update has been in the works for some time under the code name Sun Valley, and leaked details and related job postings suggest that it will significantly revamp the look and feel of Windows. with Windows 10's sixth anniversary coming up in July, a summer It seems likely that an announcement event will be held.

And, one can speculate, Microsoft intends to adopt a new name, dropping the "10" and simply calling the new operating system ... . going to be called Windows.

Thanks, Windows Central.
