Next week's Destiny 2 update will significantly nerf "Stasis" in PvP

The sour feelings surrounding the "Destiny 2" subclass "Stasis" have caused Bungie to move forward with planned changes to this crowd-controlled element.

In the latest This Week At Bungie blog post, the developer explained that it had heard feedback that Stasis was completely dominating the game's PvP playlist; rather than waiting until next season to make these changes, Bungie has decided to make the scheduled Stasis fixes will be moved up to a hotfix to be implemented next Thursday.

"While we love playing Stasis in PvE and want to preserve that experience, we agree with many in the PvP community that Stasis is too dominant in Crucible and requires too little effort and skill."

Sandbox leader Kevin Yanes explains.

"Stasis and crowd control are key components of Destiny's combat sandbox and are not going anywhere.

Some of the proposed modifications include reducing the duration of non-superfreeze freezes to 1.35 seconds and significantly reducing damage taken by frozen players from special weapons and heavy weapons. In addition, the freezing of cold snap grenades has been slightly eased. A complete list of changes is included in the patch notes in the TWAB post.

Each of the Stasis subclasses has also been adjusted, especially the Titan Behemoth, which Bungie notes currently has the highest win rate of any subclass in the game. The solution is to reduce some of the subclass's high mobility, making it easier to be targeted by opposing players; Revenants and Shadebinders will also be nerfed, with the aim being the incredibly high usage of the former and the "emotional toll on the victim" of the latter.

These changes are not just to nail Stasis; Bungie has stated that since Forsaken, PvP gunplay has been sidelined in favor of the game's "magical powers of the sweet universe." The developers are planning a series of patches to bring things back to the point where the weapons you bring to Crucible are as important as the ability set.

This quick turnaround will come as a welcome surprise to Destiny players. But don't expect this to be an ongoing thing; Yanes has expressed that this shift in focus comes at a "substantial cost to the team" and that it is unlikely that a mid-season balance overhaul will become a regular occurrence.
