The key components of the first PCIe 5.0 SSDs were presented.

The development of the first PCIe 5.0 SSD benefited greatly from the industry's first PCIe 5.0 SSD controller and Marvell's spearheading of future ultra-fast storage solutions.

The big data flying around in cloud data centers today requires faster, high-bandwidth storage. Without it, cloud gaming will fail when the next generation of gaming comes out at breakneck speed.

According to a Marvel news article, the Bravera SC5 with PCIe 5.0 support "doubles performance compared to PCIe 4.0 SSDs."

As for security, to comply with the stringent security needs of cloud data centers, these new additions to the flash family "offer FIPS-compliant root-of-trust (RoT), AES 256-bit encryption, and multi-key revocation." Marvell stated.

On the storage side, everything is looking up. We welcome these advances with open arms (and open slots) because the game is getting bigger by the day and data security is a top priority in the age of technology.

While this technology is initially touted for data centers, it won't be long before even desktop gaming PCs will support this technology. Intel Alder Lake will support PCIe 5.0, AMD will support PCIe 5.0 in its upcoming processors, it will not be long before AMD follows suit.
